The Clearing
When we think of the disciples, we think of men, but here in Luke 8, some women healed of evil spirits and sicknesses followed Jesus and were some of His chief financial supporters. God is no respecter of people, we have our distinct roles as males and females, but we are all called to follow Jesus and walk in His power. How much God can use us is determined by the state of our hearts, not by our gender or cultural background.
We see this illustration with the Parable of The Sower (Luke 8:4-15). In this parable, the seed represents the Word of God; the path, rock, thorns, and good ground means the condition of our hearts. To understand the secrets of the Kingdom, our hearts must first be open. Second, we must silence the enemy's voice; third, we must stand on the Word when tested, forth we must clear our hearts of worries, riches, and pleasures of life. Making Jesus Lord means surrendering completely to Him. We are God's garden; as lies are exposed and pulled out like weeds, the truth will become rooted deep, and we will mature and bear fruit. If we came out of darkness why would we try to cover anything up? The light is the Word, the voice of the Lord, and if we are listening we will hear Him reveal the hidden things that need to be surrendered (Luke 8:16-18).
The process of clearing starts inwardly and then works outwardly to our family and our everyday trials. We are to never stop loving our family but we are not to allow them to influence us away from the will of God. Our eternal family is not our flesh and blood but those like Jesus said "who hear and do the word of God (Luke 8:19-21)." When trials arise do we step back in fear or do we step forward and speak to the storm the Word of God by faith (Luke 8:22- 25)?
We can only walk in authority to the level Jesus is Lord. If we have demonic oppression we will not have the authority to drive demons out of others. As we allow the Lord to deliver us we gain the authority to deliver others. We see an example of this in Luke 8:26-39. Jesus sailed into the land of the Gerasenes and a demon-possessed man met Him. The main demon ruling this man was named legion which meant "he was many." Jesus sent the demons into some pigs who then jumped over a cliff into a lake and drowned. The people instead of seeking deliverance for themselves were afraid and asked Jesus to leave. Jesus left but instructed the man to go home and tell all that God had done. We can only deliver those who want to be set free. We are not to just go around to everybody, we need discernment to know who actually wants deliverance, or we will find ourselves trying to do something that will only exhaust us and go nowhere.
When we are cleared, the springs of living water just flow out of us. We see this with Jesus and the woman suffering from bleeding for 12 years. She touched the hem of the Lord's garment and power came forth and healed her. Jesus then went to a 12-year-old girl who had died and Jesus simply said, "Child, get up!" and she arose.
Many in this world are crying out for healing and deliverance, we are the vessels God desires to send. The question is have we completely surrendered and allowed the Father like a farmer to clear our field, so His power can flow forth and touch those we are sent to?
